James “Jim” Ronald Barber January 9, 1940 – February 13, 2016

barberJames R. Barber, “Jimmy” was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 9, 1940, to the late Oscar and Mary Barber. He passed away on February 13, 2016. He was 76 years young.

Jim was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert “Don” Barber and William “Billy” Barber.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat”; sons, Tommy Barber and wife, Teresa, and James “Chris” Barber; daughter, Lori Williams and fiancé Joe Spruell; brother, Jerry Barber and wife Theresa; grandson, Zachary Williams; granddaughter,Brittney Barber; and great-grandson, Liam Vargas. Jim is also survived by his granddaughter, Ashley Cumby, grandson, William “Chase” Cumby and fiancée Linda; great-grandson, Ashton Barber; and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Cumby; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jim worked for Dixico Wax Paper Company (also known as Dixico Inc. and then Bryce) in Quality Control for 35 years. After the company was sold he went to work for a contract company doing QC work for the Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service, retiring from there in 2005, after 10 years of service. Jim loved fishing and playing ball and taking walks with his beloved Dakota and Cooper. Training and loving them was his full time job after retirement.

He loved his family very much and especially enjoyed getting hugs from his beautiful granddaughters and anyone else who wanted to hug him. He was well loved and will be missed so much. Jim and Pat were members of Duncanville’s First Baptist Church.

jaynesFuneral services are 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel with Pastor Keith Brister officiating.

Burial will follow at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville.

Visitation with the family is 6-8 pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
