James “Jim” Arlie Swafford October 5, 1939 – January 29, 2018

Jim went home to his reward on Monday, January 29th. He was preceded in his passing by his parents, Johnie and Nancy Swafford.

Jim was born in Anniston, Alabama on October 5, 1939. He spent most of his childhood in Rockford, IL and attended Rockford High School.

In 1957, he found the first love of his life, the United States Navy, where he served Honorably for 21 years and received numerous honor citations. As a USN Seabee he traveled all over the world including places like Antarctica, Vietnam, and Okinawa.

While stationed at NAS Quonset, RI, he found the true love of his life and married Judith Brock Brownlie on August 14, 1964. They celebrated 54 years together and were blessed with 3 children Nancy Jane, Linda Gail, and James Richard. Upon retiring from the Navy, they settled in Duncanville, TX. From Texas, he traveled the country that he loved while driving for Ben Franklin and US Brass. As a reward for a life well lived he spent his later years with his 6 grandchildren; Erin, Janie, Megan, JR, Emily, and Timmy and great grandson, Noah.

We will miss you Papa Jim! Thank you for your service and being a wonderful husband, great Dad, awesome Grandfather and best Great Grandfather!

Visitation Services will be held at Jaynes Memorial Chapel on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm. 

A graveside service will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, February 2. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at about 9 a.m. in Lane 2.
