The newest addition to Cedar Ridge Drive, Golden Chick, is now open at 202 S. Cedar Ridge Drive.

Golden Chick now occupies the former and long-time empty, Burger King.

Golden Chicken started in the late 60’s and by 1982 had grown to 39 restaurants. In 1989, an investment group purchased Golden Fried Chicken and the chain experienced steady growth throughout the region that has the chain-wide total approaching 100 units.

In 1993, the company changed the concept to Golden Chick and in 1996, they announced that all future franchises would be named Golden Chick.

Their menu includes “Golden Tenders” , which according to the company they started over 20 years ago. They also offer fried chicken, fried catfish, chicken salad and chicken tender sandwiches, and roasted chicken. They also offer a variety of vegetables, salads, and specials.

Citizens are hopeful that with the hiring of Dan O’Leary as City Manager will lead to the hiring of an Economic Development Director as well, and hopefully jumpstart business growth that has remained stagnant and in decline since some members of the council chose to not renew the contract of Earle Jones in August of 2011. Jones had brought in over $110,000,000 in projects in his ten years as Economic Director for Duncanville, however a majority of the council thought the city needed to go in a new direction, one that has yet to be defined in almost eight months.

One of the biggest fears of the community is that the dissention of the current council will lead to businesses leaving Duncanville

One business that is leaving is CareNow located on Cockrell Hill Road. The exact reasons are unstated, but they are moving to I-20 & Wheatland Road in Dallas and will be at the new location on May 21.

And, if you’ve driven the intersection of Clark Road and Camp Wisdom and went into a sudden panic because the Cake Guys and Triple Treats were no longer there, not to worry, they simply moved and they opened another location in Duncanville.

The Cake Guys moved their design center to 630 Big Stone Gap Road, to go along with their location at 3527 Oak Lawn Avenue in Dallas, and their new location inside Everything Nice at 208 N. Main Street. At the Main Street location, they have a cupcake and cake counter with Cupcake Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm, Monday through Friday. That’s right; they added an hour to Cupcake Happy Hour for those that have to drive in from work.
