Senior Joel Hutter and Junior Boomer Collins have both been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American Team for their efforts during the 2012 season. Hutter (Davenport, Iowa) was named as the shortstop on the second team and Collins (Waxahachie, Texas) was placed as an outfielder on the third team. Both players started all 60 games for this year’s Dallas Baptist Patriot club that advanced to the championship game of the Waco Regional.

Hutter, who was drafted and signed with the Baltimore Orioles in the 10th Round of this year’s MLB First Year Player Draft, batted .338 with 11 homeruns and a club-leading 72 RBI, which tied him for fifth most in Division I Baseball. He also slugged 16 doubles and stole eight bases.

Collins, a transfer from the University of Nebraska who sat out last season to satisfy his year-in-residence requirements, hit .374 with 13 homeruns and 58 RBI. Collins finished the year ranked in seven different offensive categories, including 13th in doubles and 12th in total bases.

The Patriots finished 2012 with a 41-19 record, their second straight season of 40+ wins, and an at-large berth to the NCAA Regional Tournament as a #2 seed in the Waco Regional. After playing the last 10 seasons as an NCAA Independent, Dallas Baptist will join the Western Athletic Conference in 2013 for baseball and will open the season in a state of the art ballpark to be completed by Opening Day 2013.
