High School All Region Band Results

Duncanville High School band directors have announced that eighty-eight DHS students have qualified for 2012-2013 All-Region bands, the highest number of school qualifiers to earn this honor in the past six years.  On Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8, Duncanville High School hosted the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region 20 All-Region Band Competition, where student musicians from around the metroplex auditioned for placement in one of three All-Region bands.

BandStudents selected for All-Region bands will participate in a two-day clinic and performance on January 24 and 25.  This year’s guest clinicians are Sara McKoin (Texas Tech University), Randy Vaughn (retired – Houston) and Scott Coulson (retired – Garland).  The All-Region Concert will be hosted in the Duncanville HS Alexander Auditorium on Friday, January 25 at 7:00 pm.  Admission is free, and all are invited to attend.

Based upon their All-Region performances, thirty-two DHS students qualified to advance to the Pre-Area Band Competition on Monday, December 10.  From that group, eleven students will advance to the Area Band Competition on Saturday, January 12 in Bryan, TX.  Area competition winners will be recognized as TMEA All-State musicians.  Duncanville HS Area All-Area Band qualifiers are:

Oboe: David Daniels
Clarinet: Jazmin Yuen and Laura Martinez
Baritone saxophone: Derron Hollingsworth
Trumpet: Xavier Goode
French horn: Rossie Banks and Rocky Pena
Trombone: John Parker
Euphonium: Fernando Zuniga
