Baseball America, in consultation with coaches and scouts in and around college baseball, put together their list of the Top 10 Coaches in College Baseball Under Age 40 and named Dallas Baptist Head Coach Dan Heefner as the fifth member of the exclusive roll. As BA explained, the members of this list “constitute the next wave of marquee coaches in college baseball.”

Following is the transcript from Baseball America (baseballamerica.com):

5. Dan Heefner, Dallas Baptist (Age: 35)

rp_primary_Waco-DBU-ORU-767The Skinny: Heefner made an immediate impact on the DBU offense upon joining the staff in 2004, and he has elevated the program to new heights since taking over as head coach in 2007, including its first three trips to regionals and a 2011 appearance in super regionals.

What They’re Saying: “He’s as good a hitting instructor as there is out there. He has passion, and he’s such a level-headed, good person, he’s such a natural fit for that institution. He’s definitely a rising star, there’s no doubt about it. He’s well balanced, too. There’s no knee-jerk reactions with Dan. He’s going to deal with whatever situations come up, he’s going to give himself time, he’s going to think through it, he’s going to be incredibly fair to players. He’s got this coaching stuff figured out as a young coach.” – Creighton coach Ed Servais

Dallas Baptist will open the 2013 campaign on February 15 as they host Creighton at the new Joan and Andy Horner Ballpark. Looking to build on a 41-19 record from a year ago, the Patriots will look to a returning core that played in a Super Regional in 2011 and returned to the championship game of an NCAA Regional in 2012. Season and individual game tickets are available at www.dbutickets.com or by calling 214-333-5324.
