“Heart of Duncanville 5K” – Champions for Children

Ben Franklin Apothecary hosted the 2nd Annual Heart of Duncanville 5K run/walk on Saturday, October 10th encouraging folks to develop a healthy/active lifestyle and to support the Duncanville ISD Education Foundation. Participants took part in a wonderful event that included a scenic route through Downtown Duncanville & Lakeside Park, concert by the Shades of Gray Band, bounce houses, exceptional door prizes for runners and many more family fun activities. Over 600 registrants from throughout Dallas County participated in an event that was also met with tremendous response from the business/civic community.

All the proceeds benefit the Duncanville ISD Education Foundation which generates and distributes resources to Duncanville ISD teachers for programs and projects that enhance the quality of education and provide students with opportunities to become contributing citizens. Support from over eighty sponsors helped to make the event a huge success. Race Director Kasey Cheshier stated, “Our entire committee has such a heart to see our teachers & students excel. We truly consider it an honor & privilege to support the wonderful teachers in the City of Champions. Everybody that crossed that finish line & supported this race is a champion…. we were all champions for children on race day!”

Sheila Casey, President of the Education Foundation adds, “The Heart of Duncanville 5K is aptly named. Children are the heart of every community and the 5K adds immeasurably to the Education Foundation’s ability to fund innovative teaching grants that enrich their learning and, therefore, their lives.”

The race committee is extremely excited to announce that over $21,000 in net proceeds will be presented to the Duncanville ISD Education Foundation from the event allowing teachers more opportunities to make meaningful & worthwhile projects for local students.
