Eight Players Named to All-Heartland Conference Soccer Teams

The Heartland Conference Champion Lady Patriots Soccer Team is getting set to host the 2011 Heartland Conference Tournament on Thursday – but Wednesday, they paused long enough to pick up some awards from the league’s head coaches.

Lea Sedwick scored ten goals during her first campaign as a Lady Patriot and was named Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year for her efforts. Her 24 points on the season were good for third best in the league and her four assists tied her for fourth most. Andrea Hutchins was named Defensive Player of the Year and, while there are no statistical categories for her dominance, the conference head coaches noted her as a main reason the Lady Patriots were ranked second in goals against average.

In her fourth year at the helm of the DBU Soccer Program, Michelle Lenard was chosen by her peers as Coach of the Year. The Lady Patriots have increased their win total under Lenard every year, culminating in this year’s 13-4-1 mark and the conference championship.

Four different members of the program were named to the First Team All-Conference and four were named to the Second Team. Sedwick, Hutchins, Kourtney Edwards, and Baylie Hill were all named to the First Team while Brittany LayneHope AdamsJake Cox and Kerry Edwards received Second Team recognition.

The Lady Patriots will begin their postseason Thursday night as they host the second game of the Heartland Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament at 7:00 pm against UT-Permian Basin. St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s will play the opening game of the tournament at 4:00 pm.
