ScrapbookingEmployees and families of the Duncanville Police Department in conjunction with the Law Enforcement Torch Run are hosting a special fundraising event, Scrapping for the Athletes, benefiting the Special Olympics of Texas (SOTX).

Scrapping for the Athletes is a seven-hour scapbooking event where participants can create scrapbooks and interact with fellow scapbookers. Scrapping for the Athletes will be held October 22, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the D.L. Hopkins, Jr. Senior Center, 206 James Collins Blvd., Duncanville, Texas.

Event organizer Gloria Backus said the event is not only raising money for a worthwhile cause but a great way to have fun.

” This event will bring together crafters for an enjoyable day of fun and sharing ideas while also benefiting an organization near and dear to our hearts.  All age groups enjoy scrapbooking and this art form continues to grow in popularity each year,” said Backus.

“Vendors will have products for purchase by attendees and there will be craft demonstrations, make-and-takes and door prizes galore.  Come join us for a fun-filled day and help make a brighter future for our Special Olympic athletes,” she added.

In addition, there will be silent auction and a registered massage therapist available at the event.

The cost for the event is $35 per person. The registration deadline is October 1, 2011. Cancellation of reservations for a full refund is permissible until October 1. All of the proceeds of the event will benefit the Special Olympics of Texas. For more information, contact Gloria Backus at (972) 780-5024 or gbackus@ci.duncanville.tx.us.
