What if the Duncanville Panthers went into Cedar Hill to face the Longhorns on Friday night and only amassed 220 total yards of offense for the game, had 70 yards in penalties, only scored three offensive touchdowns, and turned the ball over twice. Well, that’s what happened and the Panthers still put 40+ points on the board again and held the Longhorn offense in check as they completely manhandled Cedar Hill in a 41-6 victory. With a majority of the accolades going to the mighty Panther defense.

The Panthers scored twice in the first quarter on pick sixes from Gerald Bowie and James Johnson. Bowie picked off Coryn Bennett and scored on a 64-yard return at the 10:41 mark and with just over two minutes left in the first quarter Johnson returned the ball 67-yards for a touchdown. Josh Delgado was good on the PAT’s and Duncanville held a 14-0 lead at the end of the first.

In the second the Panther special teams contributed when Cedar Hill’s Kyland Tyler’s punt was blocked giving the Panthers the ball at the Longhorn 7-yard line. Keilon Elder needed two runs to get into the end zone and with the Delgado PAT the Panther’s were up 21-0.

It didn’t take long for Duncanville to extend that lead even further. On the ensuing series, Cedar Hill started at their own 15-yard line and on the second play Keyshawn Johnson stripped the ball from Longhorn Kayden Berkhof and ran the ball in for a touchdown. Delgado was good again and the Panthers led 28-0 with 4:15 left in the first half.

In the third quarter Duncanville had an eight play sustained drive that covered 45 yards with 18 yards coming through the air and the rest on the legs of Keilon Elder, Warren Callhoun and Trazon Connley. Delgado was good again and Duncanville led 35-0.

Duncanville’s final score came at the beginning of the fourth quarter on a 54-yard, 5-play drive on a Callhoun 19 yard scamper. The PAT was blocked and Duncanville held at 41-0 lead.

Cedar Hill finally got on the board on the last drive of the game when Bennett hit Kendal Phillips on a 24-yard pass for a touchdown. The PAT failed and Duncanville took the 41-6 victory as time expired.

Both defenses were strong in the game with Trazon Connley going 8-11 for only 44 yards passing for Duncanville and Bennet going 5-9 for 39 yards and Berkhof going 2-8 for 25 yards for Cedar Hill. Berkhof also had 2 interceptions. Berkhof also lost the fumble that Johnson returned for a touchdown.

Duncanville rushing was also kept somewhat in check, with Elder getting 138 yards on 19 carries and scoring 2 touchdowns, while Callhoun had 6 carries for 26 yards and a touchdown. Elder and Connley both were credited with one fumble each. For Cedar Hill Quin Bright was the leading rusher with 8 carries for only 27 yards.

Total offensive yardage was 220 yards for Duncanville and 132 yards for Cedar Hill. With Duncanville gaining 44 yards passing and 176 yards on the ground. The Panther defense held the Longhorns to only 51 yards passing and 81 yards rushing.

Duncanville is now 5-0 in district 7-6A, tied with DeSoto for the district lead. In the area 6A rankings DeSoto is listed in second place and Duncanville is tied with Sachse in third place.

The Panther’s next game will be on Friday night at 7:30 at Irving’s Joy & Ralph Ellis Stadium against Irving Nimitz. Nimitz goes into the game on a 2 game losing streak, is in last place in district 7-6A, having lost to Grand Prairie and Irving.
