Duncanville Officer Eddie Edwards Brings Home Trophy

Officer Eddie Edwards represented the Duncanville Police Department in the 2nd Annual John Wright and Associates/Grand Prairie Police Department Spring Classic Police Motorcycle Competition April 17-21 and came home with a third place trophy.

There were 3 classifications of motorcycles and almost 75 riders in the 2012 classic: Harley Davidson motorcycles with a windshield, Harley Davidson with a fairing, and BMW/Honda/Kawasaki/Victory motorcycles. Edwards participated in the last category with his BMW motorcycle.

The course consisted of cone weaves, hairpin turns, 180-degree turns, and figure eight patterns. Edwards’ average time on three runs was 1 minute and 12 seconds.

The competition tested the skills of Police Motor Officers from around the Texas, and the nation and to receive state recognized training.

The event was held in the parking lot at The Home Depot at 5280 S. Hwy 360 in Grand Prairie.

Proceeds from this event and their first Annual Golf Tournament benefited Special Olympics. Last year we donated over $4,000.00 to Spokes4 hope, a non-profit organization that donates bicycles to less fortunate children.  Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Texas departments from as far away as Houston and Abilene attended, and a team of five officers from the Louisiana State Police Department and four officers from the Denham Springs, Louisiana Police Department participated in the event.

Along with hard work and training, there was time for some fun, as evidenced by the YouTube video. We have it from a good source that Edwards did not let the opportunity for some fun go by either.
