Duncanville ISD On Display – DHS Choir to Perform at Choral Conference

Home to nationally-recognized academic, vocational, fine arts, and athletics programs, Duncanville ISD has a tradition of excellence, and the Duncanville HS A Cappella Men’s Choir is the latest group to continue it. They have been invited to perform at the 2012 Southwestern Division Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA) being held in Dallas February 29 – March 3. “It is indeed an honor for SWACDA to have high quality choirs such as yours performing at this convention,” said SWACDA President Margie Camp.

Out of 97 performance submissions spanning several states, only 20 groups were invited to attend. DHS is also one of only six high school choirs chosen, and one of only three men’s choirs. “It is definitely a humbling experience to be chosen, because of the numerous outstanding choral programs that are associated with SWACDA,” commented Duncanville ISD Choir Director Ty Shaw. “This really reflects the talent and commitment of the students that we have in our district. We truly are a City of Champions!”

The Duncanville High School A Cappella Men’s Choir is made up of 34 freshman through senior students. They will make an Honor Band performance on Thursday, March 1 at 10:30 am at the Guadalupe Cathedral in Dallas. Students will also receive admission to the entire conference, which will provide them the opportunity to gain useful information and meet influential members of the choral community.

But before they’re recognized by directors across the southwestern division, the DHS A Cappella Men’s Choir is being honored right here at home. Duncanville Mayor David Green has issued a proclamation naming Tuesday, February 7 as Duncanville High School A Cappella Men’s Choir Day. Congratulations to these outstanding musicians!
