Duncanville Celebrates the Pantherettes

On Wednesday evening the long awaited ceremony recognizing the 2012 Duncanville Pantherettes for their UIL 5A State Championship was held at the Hilton Garden Inn – Duncanville.

Prior to the ceremony, there was a processional from James Collins Boulevard to the Hilton Garden Inn.

To start the celebration Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Alfred Ray welcomed everyone and recognized the city, county and state officials that were present.

Duncanville ISD School Board President Tom Kennedy recognized the team and gave the history of the Pantherettes.

Senator Royce West recognized the team for both their athletic and academic domination and presented each athlete, trainer, manager, and coach with a resolution from the State of Texas recognizing the Pantherettes.

Next, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price took the podium and presented Coach Cathy Self-Morgan with her own bobble head, and proclamations for everyone from the Dallas County Commissioner’s Court.

Duncanville Mayor David Green presented a proclamation from the City of Duncanville that recognized the team for their accomplishments.

Duncanville Chamber of Commerce President Steve Martin talked about Coach Sandra Meadows, and her legendary status, and encouraged everyone to recognize Duncanville’s newest legend, Cathy Self-Morgan.

Duncanville ISD Chief of Staff Mike Chrietzberg thanked the team on behalf of the students and staff at Duncanville High School.

Jim Redmon from Max Preps came to the podium to present the MaxPreps and Army National Guard Tour of Champions trophy to the team. Redmon pointed that MaxPreps and the Army National Guard were presenting only ten teams, out of 20,000, from across the nation with this award.

Coach Self-Morgan closed the program by thanking her team, the parents, and the fans for their support. She also pointed out that the team has already begun practice to go back to Austin next year.
