Despite 26 points from Flower Mound’s, and Baylor commit, Lauren Cox and Duncanville’s Ciera Johnson still feeling the effects of battling the flu, the Pantherettes defeated Flower Mound in a tight game last Friday night, 47-38.

The game was played before a packed house at L.D. Bell with Duncanville fans packing out one side of the gym and a contingent of Pantherette faithful sitting in Lady Jaguar territory.

“Thank you to all of you for being so loud and so proud last Friday night.   We have the best fans in the state and love you guys and your support,” said Pantherette coach Cathy Self-Morgan.

The Pantherette’s will be the home team as they face Plano with a 7 p.m. tip-off Tuesday night at Colleyville Heritage High School. Plano ousted Duncanville from the playoffs last year in bi-district.

The Pantherettes have already played the Lady Wildcats twice this year. Duncanville handedly defeated Plano at the beginning of the season in the Frisco ISD Tip-Off Classic 96-47 and then 64-52 the following week.

Against Flower Mound, Zarielle Green led Duncanville scorers with 17 points, followed by Johnson with 9 points. Defensively Madison Townley was outstanding against Lauren Cox, despite a height disadvantage. Townley also got double team help whenever Cox got her hands on the ball. Duncanville’s game plan was to force the rest of Flower Mound’s lineup to score and to hold Cox’s offensive output as low as possible.

That strategy paid off in the long run with only three other Lady Jaguars scoring and forcing Cox to not be as aggressive as she got her fourth foul midway through the fourth quarter.

Duncanville trailed 7-8 after the first quarter, but an 11-4 run to start the second quarter put Duncanville up 18-12 with only 2:23 left in the half. The Pantherettes closed out the first half with a 23-16 lead.

In the second half Duncanville maintained their high intensity defensive pressure and held a 13-point lead halfway through the fourth quarter. Flower Mound was able to take advantage of some offensive miscues and got to within nine points with less than a minute to play. Duncanville was able to hold off the late charge to come away with the victory.

Plano comes into the game with a 26-9 season record and finished second in district 6-6A, behind Plano West. Senior guard Carissa Moody leads Plano, averaging 19 points per game while sophomore guard Lolo Davenport is averaging 15 points per game.

For Duncanville, senior Ciera Johnson, University of Louisville signee, is averaging 15 ppg, and sophomore Zarielle Green is averaging 14 ppg. Duncanville has eleven other players that have scored for Duncanville this season.

Colleyville Heritage High School is located at 5401 Heritage Avenue, Colleyville, Texas.
