Duncanville ISD – Duncanville ISD teachers, students and staff kicked off the 2016 Heart of Duncanville 5K in style on Saturday. Students from Smith Elementary School’s Marathon Kids running club got the racers warmed up by leading them through a series of stretches. Athletic Director and Pantherettes Head Coach Cathy Self-Morgan signaled the start of the race and Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith handed out awards to the winners at the end of the race.

Duncanville High School organized the most participating runners based on a percentage of staff members. The winning campus receives a catered lunch from Kitchens Deli for the entire staff from race sponsor Ben Franklin and Kitchens Deli.

Runners from Daniel Intermediate School dressed in white tutus and halos won the spirit award for the best-dressed team.

Three Duncanville ISD employees won the Heart Award, which is presented to the district employee who goes above and beyond to make the race a success. Winners included: DHS team captain, David Womack; Jay Lamar, who facilitated the t-shirt design; and Smith Elementary’s Matthew Garcia who sponsors the Marathon Kids Club.

Money raised by the Heart of Duncanville 5K benefits the Duncanville ISD Education Foundation. Last year the foundation awarded more than $30,000 in grants to Duncanville ISD teachers.
