District Awarded Rebate for Energy Efficiency

As a district committed to good stewardship of taxpayer dollars, Duncanville ISD continues to make choices to be greener. Several actions to increase energy efficiency recently earned the district a rebate that will redirect an estimated $710 thousand in savings back into the classroom.

This past summer, Duncanville ISD made improvements to heating and cooling systems at Byrd and Kennemer middle schools, at all three intermediate schools, and at the newly remodeled PACE High School building. The systems will be centrally controlled by computers in the district’s maintenance department, helping to reduce energy consumption. These green initiatives earned the district a TXU rebate worth $60 thousand, as a part of the Energy Efficiency Rebate Program (EERP).

Additionally, TXU is rewarding Duncanville ISD by lowering the rate it charges the district for each kilowatt hour, resulting in significant savings on energy bills. The estimated $710 thousand in savings comes from the improved efficiency of updated equipment and control systems, rebated funds from TXU, and lower energy rates – all benefits of participation in the EERP. This focus on efficient energy consumption supports Duncanville ISD’s ongoing commitment to sound fiscal management.
