New security software will require a government-issued ID for visitors who wish to enter a campus beyond the front office. IDs will be scanned and checked against national databases.
“We’re checking for registered sex offenders and restricted persons due to domestic disputes,” explained Director of Student Safety Brian Woolery. “It’s just one more step in providing a safe and secure learning environment – making sure that people who don’t need to be on a campus aren’t.”
The new software also prints a photo name badge for easy identification.
It will be implemented at Duncanville High School and at Byrd, Kennemer, and Reed middle schools first. Woolery says the remaining campuses will then be added until the entire district is operating under the same procedures by the end of this school year.
