Kennemer MS hosted the annual Duncanville Beginner and Middle School Ensemble Contest on Saturday, February 18. This event showcased sixth through eighth grade band students from Duncanville ISD, who performed in ensembles and were evaluated by adjudicators for preparation and progress on their instruments.

For our beginner students from Brandenburg, Daniel and Hardin, this was their first of many band contests to come. As you can see by the results, our beginners are off to a great start! The three judges were most impressed with the progress that our students have made on their instruments.

Brandenburg Int: 70 students received First Division scores (11 ensembles)
Daniel Int: 133 students received First Division scores (12 ensembles)
Hardin Int: 61 students received First Division scores (8 ensembles)
Byrd MS: 148 students received First Division scores (40 ensembles)
Kennemer MS: 103 students received First Division scores (25 ensembles)
Reed MS: 59 students received First Division scores, and 4 students received Second Division scores (17 ensembles)

Duncanville ISD band directors responsible for guiding our beginner and middle school students are Keven Graham, Jed Maus, Brittney Cook, Mark Schroeder, Kenneth Thompson, Rena Mayfield, Michelle Hanegan, and Mark Teal.

Duncanville HS students will compete in their UIL Solo and Ensemble contest on Saturday, March 3 at DeSoto High School. Students at this contest have the opportunity to qualify for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest (TSSEC), to be held in Austin this May.
