Someone forgot to tell the Duncanville Panthers, and second-year Duncanville Panther coach Reginald Samples, that Plano East was traveling south a heavy favorite on Friday evening. Samples let it be known that this team was ready to shock some teams this year and then walked away with a 36-32 victory.

Couple the emergence of standout senior quarterback Jaylin Nelson and a swarming hard-hitting defense, and Duncanville was out to make a statement.

Nelson, a Texas State oral commit, went 20-31 passing for 279 yards, two touchdowns, and only throwing one pick. Senior Tre Siggers had 12 catches for 135 yards and a touchdown, and Junior Isaiah Upshaw had 4 catches for 83 yards. The only other receiving touchdown was on a 41-yard by Mackendrick Jackson on a 41-yard touchdown strike from Nelson. On the rushing side, senior Jakari Brooks led Duncanville with 11 carries for 69 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side, Javion Adams led with 7 tackles and 2 sacks. The defense also accounted for two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The Plano East offense was led by Miklo Smalls was 22-35 for 288 yards, 3 touchdowns, but had 2 interceptions. Jonathan Meadors led Plano East rushers with 84 yards on 9 attempts, while Smalls scored the only rushing touchdown. On the receiving end, Cameron Moore with 2 touchdowns and Michael Folorunso with 1 touchdown, led Plano East receivers. Moore had 14 catches for 201 yards and Folorunso had 3 catches for 53 yards.

Duncanville will next travel to Arlington Sam Houston on Thursday night for 7 p.m. game with the Texans. Sam Houston dropped their season opener to North Mesquite 35-10.
