DHS Panther Football Qualifies for State 7 on 7 Tournament

Last Friday the Panther 7 on 7 team won the Plano West tournament and qualified for the 64 team state tournament at Texas A&M. At Plano West they defeated Dennison, Sachse, McKinney, and Rockwall.

“Our team plated better and better as we played, which is a good thing,” said DHS Head Football Coach Jeff Dicus.

The team needs assistance to take the twenty member team, and coaches, to College Station.

“I know everyone gets hit a lot, but $25, $50, or whatever amount people feel comfortable with will go a long way in us trying to reach our goal of $1,500,” says Dicus. “Our kids alone can’t afford this trip.”

The players will be pitching in $50 each that will go toward defraying some of the cost, but with the cost of gas, meals, registrations, snacks, fluids, and other expenses, any amount would be greatly appreciated.

The state tournament is in one month, so the team needs to raise funds as soon as possible.

Dicus also invites anyone to stop by and watch the team practice. The team works out on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7am to noon.

You can drop your donation off at one of the practices, or the Duncanville Chamber of Commerce has volunteered to be a collection point for donations.

Another exciting note is that the summer conditioning program has grown to its largest number with over 415 athletes participating.

Last year the Panther’s made it to the semifinal, before falling to the eventual state champion, DeSoto. “This year we want to go all the way, and with your help that will send a message that you all are behind us,” said Dicus.
