DHS Cosmetology Welcomes Heroes Home

The Duncanville High School Cosmetology department is planning a great welcome home on October 29 for soldiers who have been deployed overseas.  Arriving troops will be welcomed with cold water, phone cards, and USA gum!  Students from the Cosmetology department were made aware of this community service opportunity by local SkillsUSA President, Lola Reyes. Student involvement in the project has extended to the local community, with letters to many local businesses asking for donations of gift items.  Many teachers and administrators from the school have also made generous donations.

The Cosmetology department is asking for additional phone cards at this time.  DFW Airport is the first port of entry to the US for many returning soldiers; they will then continue on to their homes across the nation.  A $5 phone card will give them a few minutes to chat with loved ones, and let them know about their connecting flights.

Students are excited to be able to welcome home between 175- 250 troops that day.  Community members who would like to donate phone cards, water, or gum may deliver these items to the Cosmetology department by Thursday, October 27h at 3:00 pm, or contact the department directly at 972.708.3747 or Ms. Manning at jmanning@duncanvilleisd.org.
