DHS Collegiate Academy to Launch in New Facility

Duncanville ISD – Duncanville High School’s first Collegiate Academy class spent time in the classroom this summer getting ready for the new school year. The 125 incoming ninth graders attended a Summer Bridge program that was designed to help them make a smooth transition to high school and to understand the expectations of taking college courses.

Students received instruction on note taking, organization, critical thinking skills, and time and stress management. They also took a trip to a local university to hear about college life from current students. Instructors encouraged the Collegiate Academy class of 2021 to make friends and to build a sense of community as they prepare to spend the next four years learning together at DHS.

Meanwhile, work continues on the specially-designed space the Collegiate Academy students will use as their college-style student union. (pictured, left)
The area – located above the library at DHS – will combine bar-height counters where students can work with meeting rooms and open space where they can study or interact with each other.

The renovated area is scheduled to be complete before school starts.
