DHS Clubs Advance to State Competition

Congratulations are in order for several of Duncanville High School’s academic and extracurricular organizations. Students will advance to State competition after excelling at Regionals. You can find a complete list of qualifiers below.

Academic Decathlon

Duncanville High School’s Academic Decathlon team finished in Third Place at the Academic Decathlon Region VIII competition, bringing home a total of 47 medals, including 18 gold. AcDec team members are Daniel Birckbichler, Anavaleria Monzon, Marcus Howard, Getzahel Serrano, Alexandria Criner, Jordan Curtis, Randy Nguyen, Zhixin Jiang, and Lynda Lee. The top 80 teams from across the state will meet at the end of February to compete for a chance to advance to Nationals. Individual winners include:

  • Jordan Curtis – Gold in Economics, Music, Language/Literature; Silver in Speech, Science, Super Quiz
  • Marcus Howard – Gold in Interview and Art; Bronze in Speech and Super Quiz
  • Lynda Lee – Silver in Art; Bronze in Economics and Science
  • Getzahel Serrano – Gold in Economics; Bronze in Science
  • Anavaleria Monzon – Silver in Economics

BPA

Members of Duncanville High School’s Business Professionals of America organization participated in Regional competition on January 21. Individual winners include:

  • Keyboarding Production – Manual Martinez, First Place (state qualifier); Daisy Ramirez, Fifth Place
  • Fundamental Word Processing – Sally Zhang, First Place (state qualifier); Jakki Ellis, Fourth Place
  • Advanced Word Processing – Daniel Bahena, Fifth Place
  • Basic Office Systems & Procedures – Joshua Lockhart, Second Place (state qualifier)
  • Website Design Team – Aubrey Humphrey, Jonathan Cothern, Dejanay Tippens, and Brandon Vaughn, Third Place
  • Entrepreneurship – Arly Valencia, Fourth Place
  • Interview Skills – Cierra Wallace, Fifth Place
  • Extemporaneous Speech – Jordan Hamilton, First Place (state qualifier)

German Club

Competing at Winterfest, Duncanville High School’s German Club trivia team placed fifth and earned a spot at State competition. Members include Fernando Zuniga, Jared Jobe, Jose Jasso, Alex Dunn, and Chris Dominguez.
