The Duncanville High School Marching Band and High Hats competed in the Plano East Marching Invitational on Saturday, October 8. After a 4:00 pm preliminary performance, they received Outstanding Awards for Winds, Percussion, Marching, and General Effect, as well as a Best in Class Award. Marching again at 9:00 pm in the finals, DHS received Outstanding Awards for Visual Performance and Musical Performance and the 2011 Plano East Grand Champions award. Directors of the DHS Marching Band and High Hats are David Brandon, George Townsend, Mark Teal, William Pitts, Kristi Beaty, Tasha Evans, Britney Cook, Kenneth Thompson, Arwyn Benson, Casey O’Neal, and Jeff King.
In case you missed the prize performance last weekend, you have one more chances coming up to see this year’s show. The Region 20 5A Marching Contest will be held at Panther Stadium on Saturday, October 15. The contest begins at 3:00 pm, with DHS taking the stage at 8:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
This year’s show is titled For Whom the Bell Tolls. Musical selections are The Promise of Living by Aaron Copland, String Quartet #4, Movement 5 by Bela Bartok, Farewell to Dobby from Harry Potter by Alexandre Desplat, and Copland’s Organ Symphony. Arrangements were written by William Pitts and Mark Teal.
