DBU’s McAlpine Records Cycle in Offensive Explosion

The Dallas Baptist (4-3) offense exploded for twenty-four runs on Saturday as six different pitchers helped limit Mississippi Valley State (1-7) to three runs at Horner Ballpark. Duncan McAlpine hit for the cycle as part of the twenty-four hit attack after tripling in his first at-bat, doubling in his second and singling ahead of a homerun in the seventh inning. His four hits led to four RBI on the afternoon as DBU scored seven in the fifth, four in the sixth, and nine in the seventh to put the game away. Michael Miller also recorded four hits and Ronnie Mitchell joined McAlpine to lead the team with four RBI.

Caulin Cragle (1-0) was credited with the win in relief as starter Cory Taylor lasted only four innings, striking out four and walking four without surrendering a hit. The Mississippi Valley offense was held without a hit until the sixth inning and broke up a no-hit bid for the second straight night with an infield single to short. Last night, it was a one out single in the ninth that ended Jake Johansen‘s no-hit attempt and Saturday, it was a ball deep in the hole at short off Drew Smith. In his one inning of work, Smith allowed one run on only the one hit. Brandon Koch and Carlton Patton recorded perfect innings and Philip Orr closed out the game after allowing two runs on three hits in the ninth.

For the Patriot offense, twenty-four was the resounding theme for the night as they scored twenty-four runs on twenty-four hits and recorded twenty-four RBI. Every batter in the lineup for the Patriots recorded at least one run driven in and there were no errors in the game on either side, the first such game for DBU on this young season.

The Patriots will take the rest of the weekend off and return to action Tuesday night as they play host to TCU at 6:30 pm. Fans can listen and watch live on the Patriot Broadcasting Network with the Pregame Show set to begin at 6:10 pm. Visit www.dbupatriots.com/showcase for more information.
