With their last two matches each going five games at the NCCAA Regional in McPherson, Kansas, the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Volleyball Team was looking to get out to an early lead on Saturday in the championship match and hold that lead throughout. Mission accomplished.
The Lady Patriots finished off Southwest Assemblies of God with no trouble Saturday afternoon (25-17, 25-9, 25-8) after SAGU took them to five games the day before. Krystal Wunderlich and Kaylyn Frink each recorded double-digit kills for DBU with 11 and 10, respectively, while Tyler Bradsher picked up 28 assists on the day. Cameron Hartson led the way defensively with 16 of the Lady Patriots’ 46 digs in the match. The Lady Patriots held SAGU to a .065 attcking percentage while DBU hit at a .441 clip.
The win, the fifth straight for the Lady Patriots, propels the squad to the NCCAA National Tournament to be held in Kissimmee, Florida the week after Thanksgiving. Head Coach Cathy Ray Kokel was pleased with the focus her team showed during the tournament. “We played a bunch of games in a few days but were able to get quite a few players in the games, which will help us for next week,” she said. “We will have a chance to recover and get ready for the national tournament the week after next. We’re excited. Any time you get a chance to keep playing, you want to win. Our goal for this week is to prepare ourselves to win our next game.”
