ENMU would start the first set scoring six of the first nine points to gain a 6-3 advantage against DBU. As the set continued the Lady Patriots would climb into the driver’s seat against the Zias with help from a four point rally and service aces from Brooke Manley to tie the set 8-8. From there the two squads would exchange leads, until Eastern New Mexico was able to create slight breathing room by going up by three with the lead, 19-16 late in the set. The Zias would go on to extend the lead and claim set one, 25-21.

The Lady Patriots would start set two very aggressive jumping out to a 4-0 lead early. Kills byTadam Mergener would keep DBU ahead as they pushed the lead going up 12-6 against ENMU. The Lady Patriots would continue to maintain the lead late into the set as they won set two, 25-19 tying the match 1-1.

Set three would see the Zias gain early momentum going up 7-2, behind constant kills by Lauren Frye. Down 12-8, DBU would score five of the next six points to tie the match a 13, but ENMU would counter scoring four of the five points to take back the lead 17-14. Point streaks would continue to help the Zias late in the set as they closed out the Lady Patriots, 25-19, taking a 2-1 match lead.

Going into the fourth set, Dallas Baptist would fall behind early as Eastern New Mexico opened up with a 6-2 lead. The Lady Patriots would go on a run, where they would score eight of the next twelve points to tie the match at 10 all. As the set continued DBU would keep the match close staying behind ENMU, refusing to give up too much of a scoring advantage. The effort to stay close would payoff as DBU was able to put together a three point run to tie the game 19-19. A late kill by Carly Hess and an attack error would give the Patriots a 22-20 lead, that would lead to DBU scoring three of the last five points to take set four, 25-22 and tie the match 2-2.

In the final set of the match Dallas Baptist would put together a string of three points to develop and early lead against Eastern New Mexico going up, 3-0. As ENMU tried to respond, DBU would keep them at bay. With DBU up 9-7 they would explode to score five straight points to extend the lead 14-8 and would then ultimately end the set with a Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick kill, ending the set, 15-8 and winning the match 3-2.

COACH’S QUOTE
“ENMU is an aggressive team. Our game plan was to counter their aggression and be the best defensive team. They came out on top of defense, but we were able to stay in system and capitalize on offense to pull out the win. Our leaders are doing a great job of staying in the game and exemplifying focus, competition, and enthusiasm.” – Coach Cathy Kokel
