DBU Track and Field Wins Three Events at Opening Meet

The Dallas Baptist University Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Team opened their 2011-2012 indoor season this weekend and came away with three victories at the 2011 MSSU Early Bird Invite hosted by Missouri Southern State University.

Sophomore Jacob Phillips won the Men’s Mile in a photo finish as he just managed to sneak by Southwest Baptist’s Ethan Ward. Phillips’ time of 4:27.50 just edged Ward’s 4:27.51. Fellow sophomore Joshua Pauley was third, and less than one second from the win in a personal best time of 4:28.47.  In the second section of the mile,  Zach Morganoutlasted freshman teammate Jameson Tomlin as the two ran 4:35.34 and 4:36.01 to finish 1st and 2nd in their section and 8th and 9th overall.
Senior Edwin Kiptoo took the 800 meters in a time of 1:59.94. Following Kiptoo was teammate Jordan Koser in 5th with a time of 2:03.80.
Other Top Ten finishes came from Sophomore Thrystan Tate with a fifth place finish in the men’s 400 meters (52.44), the men’s distance medley relay with a 2nd place finish (10:49.06), and Junior Nic White in the 800 meters (10th place).
Taking top honors for the women was the foursome of Kelsey BruceJulie DurrwachterAshley Spivey, and Katie Markin the women’s distance medley relay as they picked up the victory in a time of 13:42. Bruce, Spivey, and Durrwachter were all top 10 in the women’s mile as well – 4th, 6th, and 7th places respectively. Freshmen Tiffany Brown andTawnee Wimsatt were also Top 10 in the mile in 8th and 10th place finishes.
Freshman Glynnis Meade was 3rd overall in the women’s 5000 meters with a personal best time of 19:18.81.
The Patriot track and field teams will take the rest of December off from competition before they return to action on January 13th at the Texas Tech Indoor Invitational.
