The DBU Men’s Basketball team extended their current win streak to five with a 62-59 win in overtime over Oklahoma Christian on Monday night in Oklahoma City.  Trailing 59-58 with 1:08 remaining in the exta-period, the Patriots’ Jonathan Perry sank a pair of free-throws to give DBU a one-point lead.  Following two missed jumpers by the Eagles,Amari Bryant delivered two shots from the charity stripe to extend the DBU lead to three, before Patrick Burke stole the ball from OCU’s Jordan Rutherford in the final seconds to seal the win for the Patriots.

On a night in which DBU (19-5, 13-3) shot just 34 percent from the field, including a mere 4-for-22 from three-point range, the Patriots were led by Joey Miller, who scored a team-high 14 points.  Perry and Bryant also scored in double-figures, as they each totaled 11 points off the bench.  OCU (6-18, 3-13) was led by the Heartland Conference’s leading scorer, John Moon, who registered a double-double with 32 points and 18 rebounds.

After trailing through the first 16 minutes of the first half and falling behind by as many as eight points, DBU rallied to tie the game at 26 with just over one minute left until the break.  In the second half, the Patriots seized their first lead when Miller connected on a jumper to put DBU up 28-27 with 18:40 left on the clock.  The Patriots would extend their lead to four, before the Eagles tied the game at 37 on a jump shot from Moon with 12:42 left to play.

Over the final 12 minutes of the second half, DBU and Oklahoma Christian exchanged leads seven times.  With the Patriots down by one and 14 seconds remaining in the game, Perry hit 1-of-2 shots from the free throw line to tie the game at 54 and send the two teams to overtime.

In the overtime period, DBU went 2-for-6 from the field, but were aided by a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, as Perry and Bryant hit all four shots from the charity stripe.

“Tonight, John Moon was absolutely amazing for OCU.  He was unstoppable on offense and patrolled the paint on defense.  We struggled to finish around him and didn’t have our best offensive night.  The good thing is, our guys defended and didn’t get frustrated.  They continued to trust each other and move the ball for good shots.  To be a great team, you have to find different ways to win and tonight we ground out a victory on the road.”

– DBU is now 3-0 in overtime games this year.
– Oklahoma Christian becomes the fifth team that DBU has swept the season series from this year.
– The Patriots are now 7-3 on the road.

28 – DBU’s bench outscored Oklahoma Christian 28-4.
14 – The Patriots forced 14 turnovers, while turning the ball over just eight times.
32 – John Moon’s 32 points was more than half of OCU’s offensive output.
