DBU Rolls Past Southeastern Oklahoma State

THE LEAD
The DBU Men’s Basketball team opened their current three-game road trip with an 89-72 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State at the Bloomer Sullivan Arena in Durant, Oklahoma, on Tuesday night.  The Patriots (6-2) cruised to a 14-point lead at the half and never looked back, as DBU won for the fourth straight time.  Patrick Burke led the Patriots’ offensive attack with a team-high 16 points and was joined in double-digits by Joey Miller (15), along with Myles Johnson andJonathan Perry with 14 apiece.

Leading 20-17 with 9:36 remaining in the first half, a three-pointer from Miller extended DBU’s lead to six and sparked a 23-12 run to close out the half.  Miller, who scored all 15 of his points in the first half, connected on three shots from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes of action.

The Patriots continued their hot-shooting from downtown in the second half, as DBU went 6-of-12 from three-point land after the break.  Southeastern Oklahoma State (4-5) would draw to within eight points in the first two minutes of the second half before DBU erupted offensively, as the Patriots went on an 18-2 run over the next five minutes.  DBU would maintain their distance from the Savage Storm over the final 12 minutes, as Southeastern Oklahoma State never drew closer than 16 points.

“It was a good team effort on the road tonight.  The guys did a good job of getting on the offensive glass.  I thought they played with an unselfishness offensively and showed some toughness on the board against a big team.”

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
– DBU’s fourth straight win is the team’s longest win streak since the Patriots won four in a row last year from November 15 – December 3.
– The Patriots missed the 90 point mark for just the second time this season.
– DBU’s 6-2 start matches the team’s record last year through the first eight games.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6 – The Patriots outrebounded SEOSU by a margin of six rebounds, 41-35.
17 – DBU held the Savage Storm to 17 percent shooting from three-point range (4-for-24)
10 – The Patriots forced 10 turnovers and scored 17 points off turnovers tonight.
