DBU Patriot Track Kicks Off 2012 Season at Texas Tech Invite

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Track and Field squad opened up their 2012 season with the Texas Tech Indoor Invitational. Coming home with 19 Top-10 finishes, the Patriots have a lot to be excited about for this Indoor Season.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Freshman Kelsey Bruce. Bruce recorded two Top-10 finishes, including winning the women’s 3000 meters in a time of 10:50.38; she also finished seventh in the mile in a time of 5:22.63.  Freshman teammate Hanna Rice was just ahead of Bruce in the mile as she finished in fifth place in a time of 5:18.32. Rice was also third overall in the 3000 meters (10:58.61).

Other Lady Patriots with top-ten finishes were Freshman Glynnis Meade who was fifth in the 3000 meters (11:11.48),Freshman Tawnee Wimsatt (6th, 3000 meters – 11:30.34), Freshman Tiffany Brown (7th, 3000 meters – 11:30.64), Freshman Sarah Rayas (8th, 3000 meters – 11:31.27), and sophomore Molly Snook (9th, 3000 meters – 11:31.80).

Sophomore Joshua Pauley had the highest men’s finish on the weekend with his third place performance in the men’s mile. His time of 4:25.05 is a personal best. Finishing just behind Pauley was Sophomore teammate Jacob Phillips in sixth place.

Other Top-10 performances for the men came from the 800 meters and the 3000 meters. Seniors Edwin Kiptoo andJordan Koser were seventh and eighth in the 800 meters, while senior John Millsap was the top DBU finisher in the men’s 3000 meters with his seventh place performance. Following right behind Millsap was Pauley in eighth, Phillips in ninth, and senior Zach Morgan in 10th.

The Patriots will be off this week before traveling to Joplin, Missouri for the MSSU Lion Invite on January 27th and 28th.
