DBU Patriot Cheerleaders Partner with MDA

The Patriot Cheerleaders have taken on a new partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to raise morale and show support for the cause. MDA is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. Their slogan, “Make a Muscle, Make a Difference,” coordinates well with the mission of DBU’s student-athletes to motivate individuals to get involved and serve the community.

The Patriot Cheerleaders made their first appearance at an MDA event on Wednesday, September 14, 2011. In conjunction with a local high school drum-line, the team cheered on the regional directors as they announced their yearly fundraising goals at the MDA National Kick-off pep rally, hosted in Dallas, Texas. Along with raising morale for the upcoming year, the cheerleaders got a glimpse of the work MDA is doing through the testimony of a young, ALS victim.

Sophomore cheerleader Brooke Jones comments, “With MDA, we have the opportunity to impact the hurting families by showing the magnitude of giving and kindness through both raising money and cheering to show support and love. I am excited to continue to support MDA with other community events.”
