DBU Lady Patriots Soccer Opens Conference Play With Shutout

The Dallas Baptist Lady Patriots won their 2011 Heartland Conference opener in the same manner they have won each of their four victories this season – with a shutout.

Danielle Presley opened the scoring early for DBU by putting the Lady Patriots ahead at the 8:05 mark. Her goal was one of nine shots the Lady Patriots put on goal for the night.

Lea Sedwick scored the first of her two goals by putting in a rebound off another Presley shot on goal. Her third goal of the season came in the 17th minute and the Lady Patriots went into the half with a two goal advantage.

The game stayed 2-0 until late in the second half. An offensive barrage led to three corner kicks in the second half and the DBU pressure led to another goal when Lea Sedwick punched in her second of the contest on a penalty kick after a Newman foul in the box.

On the other end of the field, Kerry Edwards pitched her fourth shutout of the season to record shutouts in each of the Patriot wins. On the night, Edwards had to make only three saves – all in the second half.

“This was a really good start to conference,” said Head Coach Michelle Lenard. “Courtney Baxter had a great game for us and we got some really good play from some freshmen. I thought we came out really prepared for this game and put together a great game on both ends of the field.”

The Lady Patriots continue conference play as they head to Odessa, Texas to take on Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday.
