When it takes you longer to drive to the game than it takes to come out victorious, it is usually a good day for a volleyball team – especially when it is only a two hour drive. The Lady Patriot Volleyball Team dispatched Midwestern State on Thursday night in a three-game match that took seventy-eight minutes. The win ran their record to 14-13 and dropped Midwestern to 15-11.
The win continued a streak of great volleyball for the Lady Patriots – two nights after they took down the 1st place and undefeated St. Edward’s Hilltoppers at The Burg Center. The theme of the night was defense as three different players ended the night with double digit digs. Kaylyn Frink had 19, Cameron Hartson finished with 18, and Christina Steinkruger closed the night with 11. Claire Stephens chipped in on defense with 5 block assists at the net. Steinkruger also led the way on offense as she recorded 10 kills – the only Lady Patriot to reach double digits in that category.
“Tonight was an extension of what we were able to do Tuesday night,” said Head Coach Cathy Ray Kokel. “We played with intensity, we bought in to going above and beyond with our effort levels – it was a great team win. We seem to be playing our best right now and this is a good time of the year to do it.”
The Lady Patriots play their final home game Saturday afternoon as they take on Cameron at 2:00 pm. The Lady Patriots are currently tied for third place in the Heartland Conference but are tied in the win column with second place UA-Fort Smith. The Conference Tournament will be held November 11 at the home arena of the 1st place team.
