DBU Lady Patriots Defeat Lady Jets, 3-2

The Dallas Baptist Lady Patriots improved their overall season record to 7-5 as they defeated the Lady Jets from Newman University, 3-2, in a tough back and forth match.  With the win, DBU moves to 2-2 in Heartland Conference play.

Dallas Baptist quickly jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Lady Jets, as they won set one, 25-17 in convincing fashion to only drop the second set, 25-15, as Newman responded with a great offensive performance.  Haley Dotson for the Lady Jets finished the match with a match high 20 kills.

The Lady Patriots Patriots were able to win set three, 25-20, before the Lady Jets once again were able even the score and force a fifth set by grabbing the fourth set, 25-21.

In the fifth and final set,  after Dallas Baptist was able to build a small lead they finished off the Lady Jets, 15-13, to record their second Heartland Conference win.

DBU was led offensively by Sophomore Krystal Wunderlich and Junior Kristin Secord as they recorded 17 and 16 kills respectively.  Sophomore Tyler Bradsher also played a vital role in the win as she finished with a match high 53 assists.  Sophomore Libero Cameron Hartson led the Lady Patriots on the defensive side with 29 digs along with Senior Kaylyn Frink, who added 26 of her own.

The Lady Patriots  are back in action on Tuesday, September 27, as they travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the Lady Hilltoppers from St. Edward’s University.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
