DBU Lady Patriot Soccer Blasts TAMIU, 5-0

Five different Lady Patriots connected on goals in a convincing win on Thursday night against the Lady Dustdevils from Texas A&M International University, improving their Heartland Conference record to 3-1.

Freshman Lea Sedwick punched in a goal in the 30th minute of play from an assist by Kourtney Edwards, to give the Lady Patriots the early lead, 1-0.  Then, in the 42nd minute of play, Freshman Stevie Harrison increased the Lady Patriots’ lead as she blasted an unassisted goal past the Lady Dustdevil Goalkeeper, giving the Lady Patriots a commanding 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Lady Patriots began to pull away in the second half of play as Sophomore Danielle Presley capitalized on a stellar assist from Senior Brittany Layne with a bullet past the Lady Dustdevil Goalkeeper, stretching the Lady Patriot lead, 3-0.

For the third time this season, Layne scored on a left-side assist from Sedwick in the 62nd minute of play, increasing the Lady Patriot lead, 4-0.

Just three minutes later, Junior Lindsay Cox capitalized on another glamorous assist from Sedwick, as she blasted a low shot past a diving Dustdevil Goalkeeper, giving the Lady Patriots their last score of the game, as they sailed past the Lady Dustdevils, 5-0.

The Lady Patriots will be back in action on Saturday, October 8, as they will take on the Lady Rattlers from St. Mary’s University at Patriot Soccer Field.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
