DBU Drops Thriller to McMurry

The DBU Patriot Soccer Team dropped a heartbreaking contest, Thursday, falling 2-1 to McMurry University on a golden goal in the second overtime.The Patriots (1-4-0) held the lead the majority of the contest, after scoring in the 14th minute. Matthew Steffens took a pass from David Balyeat and finished the score, his second of the season.

The Warhawks didn’t strike until just over 73 minutes into the game, as Desmond Williams scored the equalizer, on an assist from Colin Lund. After regulation expired and a scoreless first overtime, Williams ended the contest, knocking in a header off a cross from Mike Moon.

Chuck Schober worked the entire game in goal for the Patriots, allowing the pair of goals to fall to 1-3-0. The Patriots took 11 shots, two of them on goal, compared to seven for the visitors, three of those on target. Neil O’Sullivan tallied one save in the win, moving to 2-3-0.

The Patriots will look to bounce back quickly, as they will host University of Texas-Permian Basin, Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
