DBU Downs Mary Hardin-Baylor 90-56 in Home Opener

THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist University Men’s Basketball team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 90-56 in their home opener and annual Homecoming game. In front of a crowd of 957 at the Burg Center, Amari Bryant and Myles Johnson combined for 40 points and eight three-pointers. Joey Miller joined Bryant and Johnson in double-digits, adding 11 points of his own.

The Patriots got out to a 12-0 lead before the Crusaders put a point up on the scoreboard, and DBU attained a 31-7 lead through the first eight minutes of the game. The Patriots outscored UMHB 20-16 over the rest of the second half, taking a 50-23 lead into the locker room. DBU shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first 40 minutes, including a 7-for-15 mark from beyond the arc.

The Patriots never looked back in the second half, outscoring the Crusaders 39-33 in the second half. DBU held UMHB to just 28.3 percent from the field and 13.6 percent from the three-point line.

Amari Bryant scored 22 points in just 21 minutes off the bench.
– The Patriots outrebounded the Crusaders 44-26, including 30-18 on defensive rebounds and 14-8 on offensive rebounds.
