The Dallas Baptist Patriots (31-14) scored four runs in the bottom of the opening frame and never looked back as the cruised to a 12-6 win over UT-Arlington (27-19) at home on Wednesday night. Aaron Gilbreath (3-3) was credited with the win for his 1.1 innings of effective relief of starter Jay Calhoun and Tyler Rockafellow threw the final two innings of the game without allowing a run. Boomer Collins and Austin Elkins both collected three hits and Ryan Behmanesh homered twice to pick up four RBI to lead the Patriot charge. In all, DBU hit five homeruns on the night and held the Mavericks to zero.

DBU jumped out the four run lead before UTA scored three of their own in the third. DBU answered that comeback with two in the bottom of the inning, led off by a Joel Hutter solo homerun. The teams traded runs in the fifth and things got dicey for the Patriots in the sixth.

Trailing 7-4, UTA loaded the bases off Gilbreath with a walk, a single, and a bunt single. A flyball to center was unable to advance the runners as Landon Anderson‘s throw home was strong enough that no runner tried to move up and that brought Michael Smith into the game to face Travis Sibley. On his second, and last pitch, of the game, Smith induced a 1-2-3 double play to preserve the three run cushion and the Patriots added three more run in the bottom of the inning to increase the lead to 10-4.

The teams would trade a pair of runs in the final three innings but Rockafellow would record the final six outs, including the fourth double play of the night for the DBU defense, as the Patriots swept the two game series from UTA and picked up their third straight win in a row.

The Patriots will return to action Friday night as they welcome the Purple Aces of Evansville for a 6:30 pm start. Taylor Massey is set to toe the rubber for DBU and live audio can be heard at www.dbupatriots.com
