DBU Comeback Falls Short Against St. Mary’s

The Dallas Baptist University Men’s Soccer team lost to St. Mary’s University, 2-1, on Thursday night at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas. After going down 2-0 in the 68th minute, the Patriots tried to launch a late comeback but were held off by the Rattlers.

Rafael Ortiz Salas put St. Mary’s on the board in the 42nd minute of the match, and Patricio Botello Faz netted the second goal with a headed effort off a free kick from Juan Sanchez.

With 56 seconds left in the match, goalkeeper Sean Bouland put a free kick into the box that was headed by Garrett Morgan to the far right corner of the goal, and was finished off by Ryan Anderson. DBU marched down the field shortly after, setting up Brooks Friedman for a chance for the game tying goal. Friedman’s attempt was wide right of the net.

– The Patriots were outshot 12-3 in the first half, but outshot the Rattlers 6-4 in the final 45minutes.
Ryan Anderson‘s last-minute goal was the first of his DBU career.
– The Patriots entered the match with a 3-1 mark at home on the season.

Sean Bouland made all four of his saves in the first half.
6 – DBU’s defense was well tested in the first half, facing six corner kicks.
3Billy Burford led the Patriots with three of their nine shots.

DBU faces off with No. 8 St. Edward’s at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
