This past weekend, the DBU MinuteMen and Cheerleaders joined forces to serve the Dallas community at Youth World. Youth World Dallas Learning Center is a non-profit youth organization that reaches out to at-risk children, and is owned and directed by the family of DBU cheerleader, Stevie Shirley‘s.
As well as making bead bracelets and paper sack puppets, the Cheerleaders were able to use their talents to teach a group of hopeful cheerleaders some cheer techniques. “It is always fun doing community service projects where we get to incorporate cheerleading,” comments sophomore cheerleader Kelsey Daigle. “Working at Youth World was such a rewarding time. We got to bond as a squad, as well as with the MinuteMen, but even more importantly, we got to share God’s love to a bunch of great kids who don’t receive a lot of love.”
The MinuteMen joined in by entertaining the children with their famous rollercoaster game, playing basketball with the boys, and lending a helping hand at the grill. “The MinuteMen brought a fun dynamic to the day with their upbeat attitudes, and they were a joy to watch as they were interacting with the kids,” adds Michelle Grose, head cheer coach and MinuteMen sponsor.
