DBU Bass Team Finishes 18th of 40 Teams at Lake Amistad FLW National Guard Tournament

In their first spring semester in program history, the DBU Patriot Bass Fishing Team competed in the first event of the FLW National Guard Southern Division Collegiate Series on Lake Amistad.  Freshman Trent Newman and Junior Trey Bledsoe represented the DBU Bass Team and secured an 18th place finish out of the 40 team field with a five-fish total of 10 pounds and 14 ounces.

“We found the fish early but made a few poor decisions that I believe cost us a few pounds,” stated Newman after reflecting upon the team’s day on Lake Amistad.  Overcoming the poor conditions and posting a 21 pound and 11 ounce sack, Lamar University earned first place honors and qualified for the Regional Championship this summer.  Teams that finish in the top-five spots of each FLW National Guard collegiate tournament earn a spot to the Regional Championship.

“I am very proud of our guys for bringing in a five-fish limit in their first big tournament of the season, and really the biggest tournament we’ve fished in thus far,” shared Assistant Director of Athletics and Bass Team Sponsor, Connor Smith.  “We can’t thank the FLW and National Guard enough for all they do for collegiate bass fishing.”

The DBU Patriot Bass Fishing Team’s next stop will be the Arkansas Tech Fishing Trail Championship on Lake Ouachita in Hot Springs, Arkansas, February 18-19.
