The Patriot Bass Fishing Team wrapped up day one of the 2012 Carhartt College B.A.S.S. Super Regional Championship on Lake Guntersville on Friday, March 9.  The Patriots currently stand in 51st place out of 116 boats, representing nearly 50 colleges and universities from across the country.

Freshman Trent Newman and Senior Reed Bass managed to sack three fish on Friday for a total weight of 11 pounds – 9 ounces.  No pun intended, Bass caught the team’s largest bass of the day, weighing in at nearly five and half pounds.  Both Newman and Bass will need to maintain their top-half spot (top 56 teams) in order to secure a berth to the Carhartt College B.A.S.S. National Championship this coming fall.

“We were quite disappointed on today’s turn out,” stated Bass.  We hope to get out there tomorrow and reel in a nice bag of fish for the team.”  Auburn-Montgomery’s team of Tyler Strock and Dalton Darnell currently own the first place spot after day one with a total weight of 28 pounds – 10 ounces.

Also fishing for the Patriots was Junior Trey Bledsoe and Freshman Jacob Sepeda who struggled as well with their 4lb-13oz day one total (84th place).

The Patriot Bass Fishing Team will be back in action again tomorrow on Lake Guntersville for the Carhartt College B.A.S.S. Super Regional Championship.  Takeoff is schedule for 6:30 a.m.
