David Doyce (D.D.) McDonald, age 86, went to be with Jesus his Savior on Saturday, January 27, 2018. He was born in Sunny Slope, Hopkins County, Texas on June 21, 1931.

Having grown up during the Depression on a farm, he couldn’t wait to join the Army and served as a Private with the 1504th Army Air Force Base Unit in Fairfield-Suisun, California. He married Bettie Sue Ferrell before a justice of the peace in Sulphur Springs, Texas on Friday, September 13, 1947 and they moved to Dallas. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

After working for Ford Motor Company, he became a master butcher at Hormel and served several years as President of the Labor Union. But his gift and passion was in buying real estate. For years he worked nights at Hormel and days repairing houses to rent. Bettie became a real estate broker in 1963 and they were an amazing team as they bought and sold countless properties over 65 years. David always gave God the glory for giving him wisdom and God richly blessed the fruit of their labor.

They had two daughters, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, including triplets and twins, with one more on the way.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Lona Mae McDonald, his devoted wife, Bettie Sue McDonald, and his grandson, Kerry Allen Shields.

Left to honor David McDonald and carry on his heritage are his two daughters, four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

His life verse was Job 28:28, “Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:30 pm, Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel.

A private family service will immediately follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Joni and Friends International Family Retreats or to any of the Billy Graham Ministries.

David loved dogs and children and one of his goals was to provide land for a camp for children with disabilities.
