Dallas Baptist Volleyball Tabbed Third in Conference Pre-Season Poll

Coming off a 22-17 campaign in 2011, and returning a core of veteran players to the 2012 squad, the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Volleyball Team has been tabbed to finish third in the Heartland Conference, according to coaches and Directors of Sports Information. Head Coach Cathy Kokel‘s team picked up a first place vote amongst the eight teams in the conference but it was pre-season favorite, and reigning tournament champions, UA-Fort Smith that received the bulk of the first place tallies. St. Edward’s was chosen second while Texas A&M International and UT-Permian Basin round out the top five.

“I am happy that we were voted in the top three in our conference,” said Kokel. “But we know our goals and we know what it is going to take to achieve those goals. It is exciting to get the recognition from our conference but, ultimately, we want our play to determine our standing in the league – and that is going to start with great practice and great work ethic from our players.”

The Lady Patriots will open the season in Golden, Colorado on August 31 as they take part in the Oredigger Volleyball Classic on the campus of the Colorado School of Mines. Their first home action of the year will not happen until September 11 as they take on Heartland Conference foe St. Edward’s at 7:00 pm in The Burg Center.
