Cosmetology for a Cause

Duncanville High School’s Cosmetology Department hosted its first ever Hair-A-Thon on Saturday, December 10.  Giving up their weekend to work, students performed salon services including haircuts, hairstyling, highlights, spa facials, manicures, and pedicures.  They spent several weeks preparing and promoting the event, and fifty percent of the day’s proceeds will be donated to the Safe Haven women’s shelter in Arlington.  Students also helped raise awareness for domestic violence by wearing purple ribbons and handing out purple bracelets to all clients.

In addition to Hair-A-Thon 2011, the Cosmetology Department also collected cleaning supplies for Ana’s Baskets. Each family leaving Safe Haven receives a basket to help get them started on their new lives. DHS students raised over $600 through Hair-A-Thon services and donations. They’d like to thank the many teachers, classmates, and community members who supported them in their charitable efforts!
