Chilly Start for Softball Knights

The Northwood Lady Knights started off the season at the Cowtown Classic Tournament in Fort Worth Texas February 15-16.

Conditions were cold and windy with temperatures in the low 40s and winds up to 18mph.

The Lady Knights went 0-4 over the weekend.


Senior Taylor Jones pitched a close game against Graceland University in Friday’s (Feb. 15) opening tilt.

Scoring the Knights’ only run of the game, Jones hit a homerun making it the first round-tripper of the season for Jones and the Lady Knights.

The Knights lost the game 3-1 to Graceland.

Freshman pitcher Megan Flores pitched the next game, against MidAmerican Nazarene University.

Senior Bethany Armstrong went 3 for 4 at the plate.  And senior Taylor Jones and junior Kaylan Pruitt hit doubles, knocking in three runs for the Knights.

The Knights lost 8-3.

Saturday the Knights played again against Graceland University. The Knights had consistent at bats with freshman Megan Flores hitting a double, junior Christine Blankenship laying down a sacrifice bunt, and freshman Jordan Wright having two hits for the game.

The Knights were behind 5-3 in the bottom of the 4th inning.  However, the Lady Knights were unable to hold the close score and lost to the Yellow Jackets, 12-4.

The last game of the tournament was played against Friends University (Kan.).  The Knights defense faltered as Northwood lost 8-2.

The Lady knights play next in the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational Feb 22-23.
