Duncanville Varsity Baseball celebrated fan night with $1 hotdogs on Friday night and took on the Cedar Hill Longhorns in a District 5-5A game.

In the top of the first inning, Chris Torrez led off with a triple to deep center field for Cedar Hill, and two outs later designated hitter Autoro Ward drove him in with a single up the middle. Ward’s hit was stopped by Duncanville second baseman Kyle Miller to hold Ward to the single, but Miller did not have a play at first.

In the bottom of the second Duncanville catcher Zachary Red led off with a hard grounder between third and shortstop. But, Cedar Hill pitcher Caleb Hamrick struck out the next three batters to end any threat.

After two innings, the Longhorns led the Panthers 1-0.

The top of the third saw Torrez lead off with a hard single between the shortstop and third base, and Torrez then stole second. Cedar Hill advanced Torrez to third with a bunt by Kevin Mathison and Torrez scored on an error by shortstop Gabriel Gonzalez. Ward hit a blooper off the end of the bat that was misplayed by Gonzalez, allowing Torrez to score and Ward to reach first.

In the bottom of the third Duncanville pitcher Kyle Miller started things off with a hard shot to centerfield for a single, Deonte Lusk hit a bouncing grounder that allowed Miller to reach second and Lusk beat out the play.  Gabriel Gonzalez safely bunted to load the bases. T.J. Gieselbach hit into a fielder’s choice when the Longhorn shortstop went to second to force out Gonzalez, but Gieselbach beat the throw to first and Miller scored from third. After three innings, Duncanville had cut the lead to 2-1 for the Longhorns.

In the bottom of the fifth with two outs, Alan Bacerra hit a single, followed by Giselbach with a single. Catcher Zachary Red hit another single to drive in Bacerra and move Giselbach to third. Calvin Ware was brought in to run for Red, who immediately stole second base. Jamaine Parks worked the pitcher to a full count before striking out swinging, but Duncanville had tied the game 2-2 after five innings.

In the sixth inning, D.J. Morgan drew a walk for the Longhorns and stole second base. Longhorn catcher R.J. Jones hit a long drive that bounced off the leftfield wall to drive in Morgan and gave Cedar Hill a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, starting Panther pitcher Kyle Miller walked the first two batters. Mathison dropped a bunt for the Longhorns that was misplayed by Panther third baseman Jamaine Parks and the bases were loaded. Hamrick helped himself by driving the ball deep to centerfield, allowing the runner from third to score, and the other two runners to advance. The next batter, the designated hitter Ward was intentionally walked to load the bases. The next batter, Morgan, hit a deep fly to right field to score Torrez. Ward was caught too far off third base and was put out in a rundown for the third out, but Cedar Hill had taken the 5-2 lead.
