Bluejays Top Patriots for Second Straight Game

For the second straight game, a messy combination of defense, bullpen innings, and poor situational hitting led to a Dallas Baptist (0-2)loss at Horner Ballpark to the Creighton Bluejays (2-0). Jake Johansen was outstanding through five innings in his first start of the season but the wheels fell off for the big righthander in the sixth and he was touched up for six hits and five earned runs in five plus innings of work and the DBU offense failed to score after the fourth inning while giving up 14 runs in the final four innings of play.

Six Patriot relievers combined to give up seven earned runs in the final four innings of play and the DBU offense collected only seven hits off five Creighton pitchers in the game. For the second straight night, the Patriots seemingly had the game in control after taking a 6-1 lead through four innings. Michael Miller provided the early spark for the DBU offense as he singled and doubled to pick up three RBI in the game and he was also outstanding behind the plate on defense, throwing out two would-be basestealers in the early goings. That lead would be short-lived, however, as Creighton scored seven in the sixth and four in the seventh to put the game away.

DBU will try to salvage the final game of the three-game series on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 pm. Freshman Cory Taylor will take the mound for the Patriots against a yet-to-be-announced starter for Creighton. The Patriot Pregame Show will begin at 12:45 pm with Brendan Smith and Reagan Ratcliff on the call.
