Big Marks for Duncanville High School Bands

As the host of the Region 20 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest on April 17-19, Duncanville High School represented the district well not only in character, but also in competition.

All four DHS bands (Symphonic Blue, Symphonic Red, Honors Band, and Wind Ensemble) received Superior ratings from each of the contest’s six judges. “I don’t know that I have ever heard a more brilliant display by a high school band,” commented judge Merlin Patterson in regard to the Wind Ensemble. “I am truly at a loss for words about what I have just heard. Your musical sophistication far exceeds your youth. All I can say is thank you for the wonderful musical experience.”

When a varsity band earns Superior ratings in both UIL Marching and Concert/Sight-Reading Contests, they receive what is known as a Sweepstakes Award. This marks the 34th consecutive year for the Duncanville High School Wind Ensemble to receive this prestigious award. Congratulations to all DHS band students and directors for their continued dedication and commitment to one of the finest band programs in the country!
